Asia and human rights: debunking the myths

(Paris) Human rights are the most powerful tool that can be used to denounce injustice and build better societies. In Asia, a number of leaders have cited so-called cultural particularities to deny the universality of human rights and justify repression, the abuse of power and systems of domination. In a report published today, entitled Demystifying Human Rights Protection in Asia, FIDH analyzes these claims and debunks the myths that surround the relation Asian countries have to human rights.

(Paris) Les droits humains sont le langage le plus puissant pour dénoncer les injustices et bâtir des sociétés meilleures. En Asie, certains dirigeants brandissent pourtant de soi-disant particularismes culturels pour nier l’universalité des droits humains et justifier l’arbitraire, les abus de pouvoir et les systèmes de domination. Dans un rapport publié aujourd’hui et intitulé Démystifier la protection des droits humains en Asie, la FIDH analyse ces postures et déconstruit les mythes qui entourent la relation entre l’Asie et les droits humains.
