Report on dodgy RSPO audits now in French, Indonesian and Spanish

LAST November, the London-based Environmental Investigation Agency and campaign partner Grassroots released Who Watches the Watchmen?, an exposé of critical auditing failures in the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) certification system for sustainable palm oil.

The report’s findings of fraud and failure in auditing processes spurred RSPO members at the meeting to support a resolution to improve the quality, oversight and credibility of assessments by the third-party auditors underpinning RSPO certification – a reform process EIA will be monitoring closely

In light of requests for the report in frontier palm oil growing regions, EIA has translated Who Watches the Watchmen? into three additional languages – Bahasa Indonesian, French and Spanish. With millions of hectares of new palm oil plantations planned across Latin America and Sub-Saharan African countries, as well as more growth in Indonesia and Malaysia, it is crucial new developments avoid the problems identified in the Watchmen report. Speaking in the right language should only help.

Additionally, on Tuesday, February 9, EIA Forest campaigner Jago Wadley will take part in a dedicated webinar entitled Can companies trust palm oil audits?. The webinar is organised by the Innovation Forum for the benefit of corporate supply chain professionals and other interested oil palm sector parties. Those interested in listening to or taking part in the webinar can register here.
