AFRIKYOTO
Torino, 12-13 April 2007 – Environment Park
The international conference AfriKyoTO will be held on 12-13 April in Torino-Environment Park. The event is organised by the Agenzia Energia e Ambiente di Torino, Environment Park and TEA, under the sponsorship of the Compagnia di San Paolo, as well as other private and institutional sponsors.
AfriKyoTO has a double goal: on one hand, to present the current situation of Kyoto´s fulfilments in Italy, just when the European Commission has to approve the new national plan for the assignment of the CO2 emission allowances to the Italian companies.
On the other hand, the conference aims to support the partnerships between companies, Italian organizations and African countries in developing CDM projects (Clean Development Mechanism).
CDM is a flexible mechanism introduced by the Kyoto Protocol, which offers governments and companies in the countries with an obligation to reduce emissions, the possibility of creating projects regarding energy efficiency, the promotion of renewable energy sources, the recovery of greenhouse gases through afforestation/reforestation in developing countries.
The speakers panel includes representatives from Italian authorities competent in the issues implicated by Kyoto (Italian Economic Development Ministry and Environment Ministry), representatives of important companies (Gruppo Intesasanpaolo, RINA) and of financial institutions (Confindustria). Delegates of the Governments of Egypt, Mozambique, Senegal and Tunisia will illustrate their strategies and the opportunities to be found in CDM projects.
During the evening of the 12 April 2007, the Town Councillor for the Environment, Domenico Mangone, will hold a welcome speech. Furthermore, there will be a networking cocktail offered by the Institutions to be held at a prestigious location in the City («Palazzo Civico della Città di Torino»).
During the conference, Agenzia Energia e Ambiente di Torino, Environment Park and TEA will launch a new service, the first in Italy, in order to make easier the meeting between demand and supply of CDM projects: a sort of counter service to enable and support the relationship between companies and organizations of developed countries, interested in investing, and Governments of developing countries, that will benefit from those investments.
