Economic Growth in Africa to Rise by 6.5 Percent in 2007, IMF Says [Source: IMF ]

In 2007, rising oil production is expected to increase Sub-Saharan Africa´s GDP by an estimated 6.5 percent, IMF officials report. In the «IMF Regional Economic Outlook for Sub-Saharan Africa» report, officials analyze what factor will help the region continue its global growth and what factors may pose a risk. The report indicates inflation for the region should remain unchanged at an estimated 7 percent and three-quarters of the countries are expected to record single-digit inflation. However, risk factors, according to the report, include an unanticipated sharp decline in global demand and potential larger-than-expected drops in non-fuel commodity prices. Many countries also remain vulnerable to droughts and other natural disasters, while other countries struggle with abnormally high rates of HIV/AIDS.
