Being a part: You’ve asked and we’ve listened

Three years ago when Worldreader first empowered some of the world’s poorest children with e-readers, you said: how can I be a part? Since then, many of you have donated, helped spread the word and cheered us on. As a result you’ve helped us empower over 12,000 children and families using e-readers, and hundreds of thousands more through their mobile phones, with the education they need to change their lives. Thank you!

Today we’re announcing a new way for anyone to get books into the most remote places: by sponsoring a Worldreader Kit for a school. A Worldreader Kit includes:50 ruggedized Kindles with clip-on lights100 storybooks and textbooks per Kindle, from Africa and the rest of the worldProven training materials for students, teachers and the whole community

Now you can take Worldreader anywhere in Africa. Watch the video above to see how one Worldreader Kit donation brought Kindles into two primary schools in Tanzania. You’ll see the impact on 11-year-old Mery’s life who wants to teach her whole country to read.  And at the same time, the project caught the attention of the Prime Minister. Thanks to this donation and the folks behind it, Tanzania might soon lead the way for a reading revolution.

Join us and let’s empower schools with books.  Nearly every week a new Worldreader Kit launches in schools and libraries across Africa, including this past week in Zambia via Dwankhozi Hope (read their take on it).  But we still have many more to go.

Whether you have a school in mind or if you’re inspired and want to get involved, we’ve got a list of great schools in need. Just contact us.  And if you know of someone who supports a school in Africa, please forward this note.
