Looking forward to an impactful 2013

As we launch into a 2013 full of new challenges and opportunities, we are driven by an expanded vision. Not only are we continuing to equip and train human rights defenders, we’re working on a larger scale to make environments safer for millions of citizen witnesses and to make sure their videos are seen and make a difference.Read more from our Executive Director Yvette Alberdingk Thijm in her latest blog post.

We’re also excited to share our 2012 Annual Report with you – with a special video introduction from Yvette.

Last year was a memorable year for WITNESS, with some amazing successes and incredible growth in the video for change community.

Marking the close of a campaign that we worked on for years, Thomas Lubanga, the warlord responsible for the use of child soldiers in the eastern DRC, was sentenced to 15 years in prison. Videos produced with our partners in Mexico helped halt a dam project that threatened the livelihoods of thousands. Citizen journalism has never been more important than it is today – and in 2012 we launched a site dedicated to showcasing breaking human rights footage (find out more about the year in citizen human rights video here).

You can read about all of this and more in our new report.

Thank you for being part of the change. We look forward to working with you to make a difference in 2013.
